EVENT DETAILS
The First Annual Medical Students & Post-graduate Research Day was conducted at Deccan College of Medical Sciences, Owaisi Hospital & Research Center; Hyderabad on April 7, 2018. This academic program was arranged through collaboration and sponsorship from Deccan Alumni Association (DAA) and Deccan Alumni Association of North America (DAANA).
Dr. Hamid Abdul Qayyum, Principal DCMS stressed the importance of scientific clinical research and its important role in the management of our patients. Dr. Ashfaq Hasan, Vice Principal DCMS, and Chairman of the Research Committee opened the program and highlighted the steps the administration is taking to mentor research activities at our medical college. These include early morning ‘hand sign-off’ reports, three times a week academic afternoon conferences and Friday afternoon ‘round-table discussion’ to analyze any challenging cases. Dr. Majid Adil, President DAA, Superintendent Esra Hospital was co-chairperson and thanked the college administration for their encouragement and support in promoting research related activities at all DCMS affiliated institutions.
Dr. Mohammed Moizuddin, Co-Chairperson; Executive Board Member DAANA, Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep physician from University of South Carolina School of Medicine was the Keynote Speaker and addressed the medical students, post-graduate, super-specialty students and faculty on this occasion. He explained DAANA’s academic mission to promote collaboration between DCMS students & Faculty with teaching hospitals in the United States along with a brief overview of Mentorship, HOST (Host Our Students Travel) and DAANA Scholarship projects.
The research day co-coordinators were Dr. Shahana Adil, Dr. Mohammed Khalil, Dr. Fahd Mirza, Dr. Mohammed Naseeruddin, Dr. Aleemuddin Naveed and Dr. Naseem Majid, all from DAA. The judges for the research day were Dr. Raj Kirit, Dr. Mohammed Riyaz, Dr. Majid Adil, Dr. Mohammed Moizuddin & Dr. Aleem Ahmed Khan.
All the winners from Oral Scientific & E- Poster presentation received cash prizes and a grand prize of a sponsored trip to the United States was also announced on this occasion. DAANA will assist the winning medical student present his/her research at any International Scientific meeting. DAA-DAANA plans to conduct this event annually and would also like to initiate a city-wide competition from next year.
